Horsburgh & Scott History
Horsburgh & Scott was founded in 1886 and incorporated in 1903 and is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial gears and 'made-to-order' mechanical gear drives. Our products are found in major industries throughout the world including Steel, Aluminum, Rubber, Plastics, Mining, Paper, Food Processing, Coal, Power Generation, Chemicals, Cement, Sugar, Oil, Gas & Water Pumps, Pollution Control, and Wind Turbines.
In 1916, Frank Horsburgh participated in the founding of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA). Horsburgh & Scott is one of the nine founding companies. AGMA provides a forum for the collection of information relative to the advancement and improvement of the gear industry. A key aspect of that activity is the standardization of gear design and manufacturing.
Horsburgh & Scott offers a broad range of industrial gear types for new or replacement installations including many tough-to-find types. Horsburgh & Scott manufactures helical, internal, double helical, racks, worms, Maag hard cut, precision ground, spur and herringbone gearing in sizes from 3 inches to 360 inches (30 feet) in diameter. Horsburgh & Scott also specializes in custom gear drives from several thousand lb-in to over 54,000,000 lb-in of output torque. Drives range in size from 20" long by 10" wide to drives the size of a small summer cottage. The Company’s real expertise lies in upgrading existing units to provide increased HP capacity in the same envelope to fit existing foundations.
