Can Horsburgh and Scott match my existing foundation?

H&S specializes in the manufacture of replacement units to fit existing locations. Typically these replacements also include significant increases in load capacity.

I have a Brand 'XYZ' reducer. Can you make replacement gearing?

Many reducers are grouted in concrete which make it impractical to remove the housing. Yes, we provide drop-in assemblies to fit your existing housing provided the critical dimensions are available.

My reducer is 40 years old. Can I still get spare parts?

Horsburgh and Scott provides spare parts for all units manufactured throughout its 117 year history. See the Spare Parts area for further details.

I want to upgrade my unit to the latest technology using Carburized gearing. What should I consider before upgrading?

There are many areas to consider in conjunction with upgrading the gearing. For example;

  • What is the condition of the housing? Surface hardened elements require accurate bore alignment.
  • What is the load capacity of the shafting, keys, couplings and connected equipment?
  • What are the bearing life ratings?
  • What is the current oil viscosity and should it change?

Be sure your gearing supplier has addressed these issues before you "flip the switch" on that larger HP motor.
