Design Engineer

This position in the Open Gearing/ Spare Parts Engineering group is responsible for design of new and replacement gears and gear assemblies. This engineer will work with both analytical and graphical design tools. This position reports to the Design Manager for Gears and Spares.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform engineering functions for new and replacement gears / gear assemblies. These functions will include (but are not limited to):
· Gear tooth geometry analysis
· Materials and process selection
· Shaft deflection analysis
· Bearing life analysis and selection
· Gear weldment analysis
· Gear drive layout
· Establish assembly and testing requirements
· Work with reverse engineering technicians as required for make per sample products
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Review and approve drawings from designers and other engineers for release to the shop
· Meet scheduled release of material requisitions and part designs and record status in Baan
· Support shop floor and assembly when questions or issues come up
REQUIREMENTS:
· B.S. Mechanical Engineering; or B.S.M.E.T.
· Minimum of 5 years machine design experience, within the gearing industry is a plus
· Computer literate with Microsoft Office applications, 3-D modeling experience preferred (Solid Works experience a plus), BaaN (ERP System) experience a plus
· Very good communicator – both written and verbally
· Creative thinker and problem solver
· Capable of managing multiple priorities
